According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), 15.9 million children under 18 in the United States live in households where they are unable to consistently access enough nutritious food necessary for a healthy life.
When we were in our first year of the brand, we became intimately aware of this growing childhood hunger challenge in the United States, due to a friend's experience with fostering children. We had already decided that we wanted to support a charity with our new brand and were now set on finding a way to assist in this fight against hunger. We did some research and came across the Kids Cafe Program under the Feeding America national organization. We then met with our local chapter and had the opportunity to tour two of these programs. They brought us to tears. The thought, care and respect that goes into these programs blew us away. We both walked away knowing that this is what we wanted to help support. We met with the head of philanthropy at the Second Harvest Food Bank (our local chapter) and had a simple question: how much does it cost to feed one child for an entire day within this program? And that is what we settled on. For every pair of beek shoes sold, we donate one day's worth of meals to a child in need, through the Kids Cafe program. And darn it feels good to write that check. We hope you can help us in this fight against childhood hunger, because no child should go to bed hungry.
